Price History

Description

Ripley tables are produced in Europe, fusing the beauty and nature of wood and metal in a contemporary style. Ripley table tops are made of solid European oak with the option of straight or natural wavy edges and finishes available in either natural or black/brown oil. Every table top is unique, just like no two trees are the same. Each table one is made from rustic boards and fused together. The boards may feature knots, splits and cracks that are carefully filled with a black filler. Medullary rays are common on oak boards and should not be mistaken for flaws. The legs are made of metal tubes 4 x 10cm in size and are joined into a crossleg. Want to see it first? You may want to see and get a feel for the furniture in one of our shops before ordering. We'll be able to tell you where the range you'd like to view is on display.

Our Stylist Says

I’d call this the Ripley table - its solid oak top and dark-oil finish give it a durable, lived-in look that suits both contemporary and industrial schemes, as well as more pared-back Scandi spaces. The sculptural, steel-spoked base adds visual interest without bulk, so it works equally well in open-plan kitchens or dedicated dining rooms. Styling tip: soften the dark tones with lighter linen or velvet chairs and a neutral runner, then layer on low ceramics or a simple glass vase of greenery for a modern centrepiece. If space allows, try a bench on one side to contrast the angular base and keep the overall impression relaxed.

About John Lewis

Founded in 1864, John Lewis is a trusted and beloved brand where you can find a diverse range of furniture for every style and budget, alongside finding the perfect item that reflects your personal taste.

A Legacy of Innovation and Inclusion

John Lewis started as a small shop on London's Oxford Street in 1864. Today, it's part of a bigger family called the John Lewis Partnership, which also includes Waitrose stores.

What makes them special is that they're owned by their employees, known as 'Partners'. The idea, from the beginning, was to give everyone a say in how the business was run. With over 74,000 Partners (employees) at the heart of its operations, the essence of John Lewis's vision, from over a century ago, still echoes today being the largest employee-owned venture.

Adapting to Changing Times

Like many stores, John Lewis has had to change with the times. They've closed some shops but have grown their online business a lot, especially when more people started shopping online during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Their history is filled with key moments, like buying Peter Jones in 1905, adding Waitrose in 1937, and starting their website in 2001. They've always tried to adapt and stay relevant.

Commitment to a Greater Purpose

John Lewis believes in doing good and making the world a better place. This is seen in the way they treat their employees and customers. For example, in 2021, they were the first big UK store to give parents six months paid leave when they have a baby and two weeks paid leave if they lose a pregnancy. They've been around for over a century and always aim to do the right thing by everyone.
