Description

The small-but-mighty side table. Catch-all for trinkets, lamps, books, and pretty much anything that'll fit in, on or under it. So, how to honour this unsung hero? We CONSCIOUSLY CRAFTED this side table from materials that aren’t so commonly seen these days, but are long overdue a comeback: cherry wood and rattan wicker weave. Our design team made the decision design to use solid cherry wood and cherry veneers for the frame. Many makers have ditched redwoods, with modern furniture tending towards the contrasts of darker or paler woods. When our design team saw some newly sourced cherry samples they were struck by the rich warmth of the colour and the fine, straight grain. They saw the chance to reintroduce this redwood to a new generation. As the cherry is finished with a clear lacquer, you can expect it to darken and develop a rich, natural patina over time as the colour deepens and intensifies, telling its own unique story. Elsewhere we used natural cane for the rattan weave front sections. Rattan — once the darling of '60s and '70s interior design and now brought into a more contemporary design — is a high durability, low maintenance material. The handle-free drawer design helps to keep the dimensions down a bit too. Try before you buy We're confident in our furniture's quality, but it's always a good idea to check that it's a good personal fit for you.

Our Stylist Says

I’m a big fan of this rattan-front bedside table for its warm cherry wood finish and tactile cane drawer - it instantly softens a room without feeling fussy. It works equally well in Scandi-inspired spaces (pair with crisp white linens and matte black fittings), boho bedrooms (layer with woven throws and textured cushions) or mid-century schemes (accent with a sleek brass lamp). Keep styling simple: a small potted plant or vase and a neat stack of books on top, with bedside essentials tucked away in the drawer. Its compact size makes it ideal for tight spaces, while the natural tones complement most colour palettes.

About John Lewis

Founded in 1864, John Lewis is a trusted and beloved brand where you can find a diverse range of furniture for every style and budget, alongside finding the perfect item that reflects your personal taste.

A Legacy of Innovation and Inclusion

John Lewis started as a small shop on London's Oxford Street in 1864. Today, it's part of a bigger family called the John Lewis Partnership, which also includes Waitrose stores.

What makes them special is that they're owned by their employees, known as 'Partners'. The idea, from the beginning, was to give everyone a say in how the business was run. With over 74,000 Partners (employees) at the heart of its operations, the essence of John Lewis's vision, from over a century ago, still echoes today being the largest employee-owned venture.

Adapting to Changing Times

Like many stores, John Lewis has had to change with the times. They've closed some shops but have grown their online business a lot, especially when more people started shopping online during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Their history is filled with key moments, like buying Peter Jones in 1905, adding Waitrose in 1937, and starting their website in 2001. They've always tried to adapt and stay relevant.

Commitment to a Greater Purpose

John Lewis believes in doing good and making the world a better place. This is seen in the way they treat their employees and customers. For example, in 2021, they were the first big UK store to give parents six months paid leave when they have a baby and two weeks paid leave if they lose a pregnancy. They've been around for over a century and always aim to do the right thing by everyone.
