Description

Suitable for lamp bases only, this Gemma tapered lamp shade is beautifully crafted from Dupioni silk. Its neutral palette will lend an elegant finishing touch to your tabletops. Boasting a high quality and tactile handle, its medium weight silk construction derives from a plain weave, where two cocoons become naturally adjoined. A classic choice that will make an eye-catching and smart statement, all sizes should be used with a max. 60W bulb. Please note: Silk is a natural fibre and any textural irregularities are characteristic of its closely weaved production, not defects. Good to know Our straight-sided, or drum lampshades are well-paired with modern lamp bases, while tapered lampshades work well with classic style bases. You can shop our range of lamp bases

Our Stylist Says

I love the Gemma silk lamp shade for its classic shape and soft, understated elegance, making it a versatile addition to many interiors. It works particularly well in traditional or contemporary schemes where its neutral tone can enhance a calm, cosy ambiance. To style it effectively, try pairing it with a decorative base that adds a touch of texture or colour for visual interest. Practical tip: this shade is ideal for table lamps in bedrooms or living rooms, providing gentle, diffuse light that creates a welcoming atmosphere. Keep it simple with light, natural tones to maintain a minimalist look, or go bold with darker bases for a striking contrast.

About John Lewis

Founded in 1864, John Lewis is a trusted and beloved brand where you can find a diverse range of furniture for every style and budget, alongside finding the perfect item that reflects your personal taste.

A Legacy of Innovation and Inclusion

John Lewis started as a small shop on London's Oxford Street in 1864. Today, it's part of a bigger family called the John Lewis Partnership, which also includes Waitrose stores.

What makes them special is that they're owned by their employees, known as 'Partners'. The idea, from the beginning, was to give everyone a say in how the business was run. With over 74,000 Partners (employees) at the heart of its operations, the essence of John Lewis's vision, from over a century ago, still echoes today being the largest employee-owned venture.

Adapting to Changing Times

Like many stores, John Lewis has had to change with the times. They've closed some shops but have grown their online business a lot, especially when more people started shopping online during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Their history is filled with key moments, like buying Peter Jones in 1905, adding Waitrose in 1937, and starting their website in 2001. They've always tried to adapt and stay relevant.

Commitment to a Greater Purpose

John Lewis believes in doing good and making the world a better place. This is seen in the way they treat their employees and customers. For example, in 2021, they were the first big UK store to give parents six months paid leave when they have a baby and two weeks paid leave if they lose a pregnancy. They've been around for over a century and always aim to do the right thing by everyone.
