The dome-shaped shade can be freely tilted, dangled or angled. Hang it straight down for the kind of ambient pool of light you'd associate with a cosy night in, or angle it as needed as a task or reading lamp. The rotary dimming function makes for a perfect bedside light, for when you need to finish the last chapter and discover just what the butler did while your partner is trying to get some shut-eye. With a 2m long cable, you can actually position it where it's convenient for you, instead of where it's convenient for the plug sockets. You'll need to buy an LED dimmable bulb for this lamp, although keep in mind that a typical LED bulb will last far longer than an incandescent bulb, and will use 90% less electricity too.

John Lewis started as a small shop on London's Oxford Street in 1864. Today, it's part of a bigger family called the John Lewis Partnership, which also includes Waitrose stores.
