Description

This wide bookcase is the perfect place to display your books and help keep your space organised. With it clean and simple design it's a versatile storage solution for your living or dining room. Want to see it first? You may want to see and get a feel for the furniture in one of our shops before ordering. We'll be able to tell you where the range you'd like to view is on display.

Our Stylist Says

I’m a big fan of the Format wide bookcase in greige for its neutral, slightly warm tone and clean-lined silhouette - it slots straight into Scandi-inspired or contemporary settings and even softens up a more industrial look. The mix of open shelves and cupboard doors gives you the freedom to balance display with hidden storage: show off a few art books, a couple of objets and a trailing plant on the top tiers, then stash away extra files, toys or lesser-used bits and bobs behind the doors below. For a pulled-together finish, group books in small stacks rather than lining them up end-to-end, introduce baskets or boxes in natural fibres on one shelf to add texture, and leave breathing space around each item to avoid a cluttered feel. A statement vase or a small piece of artwork leaning against the back panel can add height and break up the horizontal lines.

About John Lewis

Founded in 1864, John Lewis is a trusted and beloved brand where you can find a diverse range of furniture for every style and budget, alongside finding the perfect item that reflects your personal taste.

A Legacy of Innovation and Inclusion

John Lewis started as a small shop on London's Oxford Street in 1864. Today, it's part of a bigger family called the John Lewis Partnership, which also includes Waitrose stores.

What makes them special is that they're owned by their employees, known as 'Partners'. The idea, from the beginning, was to give everyone a say in how the business was run. With over 74,000 Partners (employees) at the heart of its operations, the essence of John Lewis's vision, from over a century ago, still echoes today being the largest employee-owned venture.

Adapting to Changing Times

Like many stores, John Lewis has had to change with the times. They've closed some shops but have grown their online business a lot, especially when more people started shopping online during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Their history is filled with key moments, like buying Peter Jones in 1905, adding Waitrose in 1937, and starting their website in 2001. They've always tried to adapt and stay relevant.

Commitment to a Greater Purpose

John Lewis believes in doing good and making the world a better place. This is seen in the way they treat their employees and customers. For example, in 2021, they were the first big UK store to give parents six months paid leave when they have a baby and two weeks paid leave if they lose a pregnancy. They've been around for over a century and always aim to do the right thing by everyone.
