A framed print of 'Window-Sill, Lugano' in Switzerland, 1923, by Winifred Nicholson, from the Tate collection. Made in the UK exclusively for John Lewis. The black frame is made of solid ayous wood. Framed with a card mount and glass front, it arrives ready to hang on your wall. Winifred Nicholson (1893–1981) was a progressive British painter who developed a personal impressionistic style, concentrating on still life objects and landscapes. She often combined the two subjects, as seen in 'Window-Sill'. She had a lifelong fascination with rainbow and spectrum colours and in the 1970s made particularly strong and innovative use of these in her work. She painted prolifically throughout her life, at home and in Italy, Greece and Scotland. Have you thought about wall hooks and fittings?
I love the simplicity and vibrant colour palette of this piece, making it a versatile addition to both modern and classic interiors. It works particularly well in kitchens, living rooms, or sunny breakfast areas where light and colour are key. For styling, try pairing it with neutral walls or layered with other artworks in coordinated frames to create a curated gallery wall. The 44 x 64cm size makes it ideal for above sideboards, mantels, or sofas without overwhelming the space. To keep the focus on the artwork, complement it with subtle decor items like plain ceramics or textured textiles, allowing the print to be a lively focal point without competing with other design elements.
