A framed print of an untitled 1997 abstract work by Jean Spencer, from the Tate collection. Made in the UK exclusively for John Lewis. The black frame is made of FSC-certified solid ayous wood, sourced from sustainably managed forests. Framed with a card mount and glass front, it arrives ready to hang on your wall. Jean Spencer (1942–1998) was known for her abstract paintings and relief sculptures. She created her first abstract reliefs while a student at Bath School of Art, where she had been introduced to systematic constructivism. After teaching for 20 years, Spencer joined the faculty of the Slade School of Fine Art. Her first solo exhibition was at the Bear Lane Gallery, Oxford in 1965, the second at the University of Sussex, in 1969. Have you thought about wall hooks and fittings?
This print is a sleek, contemporary piece that works well in modern and minimalist interiors. Its bold colour blocks and clean lines make it a versatile statement that can add depth to a neutral scheme or complement other colourful accents. I love it for space above sofas or beds, where its simplicity can anchor a room. When styling, consider pairing it with simple, understated furniture to let the artwork stand out, or combine it with other geometric pieces for a cohesive look. The wood frame adds warmth, making it suitable for both urban and Scandi-inspired spaces, while the size makes it perfect for filling a focal wall without overwhelming the room.
