Description

Designed by Swoon, made by us. With a shared commitment to exceptional design and quality, we've collaborated to create an exclusive furniture collection for the modern home. The Mendel range of furniture captures the essence of Art Deco inspired design. This sideboard is made from hard-wearing ash wood and veneers and it's decorated with geometric detail on the front that's created from inlaid lines of gold-finished metal. There's plenty of storage space thanks to three individual storage compartments, each designed with an adjustable shelf. We love its painted finish which brings out the rich colour and tactile contrast of the metal. Want to see it first? You may want to see and get a feel for the furniture in one of our shops before ordering. We'll be able to tell you where the range you'd like to view is on display.

Our Stylist Says

I love the black Swoon Mendel sideboard for its sleek, contemporary design with a touch of luxury thanks to the geometric detailing and gold accents. It’s a versatile piece that works particularly well in modern or minimalist interiors, but also adds a sophisticated edge to more eclectic spaces. Practical styling tips include placing decorative objects like vases or framed art on top to balance its bold silhouette, while spacious internal compartments make it ideal for storing dinnerware or media components in dining rooms or living spaces. Its neutral yet impactful look means it can easily anchor a room and become a statement piece without overwhelming the rest of the decor.

About John Lewis

Founded in 1864, John Lewis is a trusted and beloved brand where you can find a diverse range of furniture for every style and budget, alongside finding the perfect item that reflects your personal taste.

A Legacy of Innovation and Inclusion

John Lewis started as a small shop on London's Oxford Street in 1864. Today, it's part of a bigger family called the John Lewis Partnership, which also includes Waitrose stores.

What makes them special is that they're owned by their employees, known as 'Partners'. The idea, from the beginning, was to give everyone a say in how the business was run. With over 74,000 Partners (employees) at the heart of its operations, the essence of John Lewis's vision, from over a century ago, still echoes today being the largest employee-owned venture.

Adapting to Changing Times

Like many stores, John Lewis has had to change with the times. They've closed some shops but have grown their online business a lot, especially when more people started shopping online during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Their history is filled with key moments, like buying Peter Jones in 1905, adding Waitrose in 1937, and starting their website in 2001. They've always tried to adapt and stay relevant.

Commitment to a Greater Purpose

John Lewis believes in doing good and making the world a better place. This is seen in the way they treat their employees and customers. For example, in 2021, they were the first big UK store to give parents six months paid leave when they have a baby and two weeks paid leave if they lose a pregnancy. They've been around for over a century and always aim to do the right thing by everyone.
