Description

Created for us by Sitting Firm at Gaze Burvill, this side table has been handcrafted in Hampshire by a team of skilled craftspeople. They combined traditional techniques of steam bending and hand-finishing alongside precision technology, and handpicked the finest cuts of British Ash from a selection of trusted sawmills. The individual patterns of the grain and rich colour of the wood ensures this table is a unique and collectable piece of furniture that will stand the test of time. The sleek, tripod shape and compact size of this side table makes it adaptable in any interior setting. With rounded edges and spindle-shaped legs, it's a visually soft style that reinforces quality woodwork. Quality materials, responsibly sourced The Ash we use is all sourced from sustainably managed British woodlands. British Ash, known as Fraxinus Excelsior, is a pale wood which often has dark streaks in it, known as Olive Ash. Olive Ash occurs in the heartwood of the ash and is prized by chair makers as it brings out the grain in the wood. When it's found alongside pale sapwood, it can give rise to a dramatic contrast of colour which makes for a truly unique piece. Want to see it first? You may want to see and get a feel for the furniture in one of our shops before ordering. We'll be able to tell you where the range you'd like to view is on display.

Our Stylist Says

I love this little side table for its simple, natural aesthetic-it’s perfect for adding warmth and texture to a variety of interiors. The light wood finish ensures it blends effortlessly with both modern and Scandi-inspired spaces, making it versatile for living rooms, bedrooms, or even a cosy reading nook. Styling tips include pairing it with a minimal lamp, a small stack of books, or a potted plant to create a casual, lived-in look. Its compact size also makes it ideal for maximising space without sacrificing style, especially in smaller rooms or as an accent piece. This table’s understated charm supports a wide range of colour schemes and furniture styles, making it a practical yet stylish choice.

About John Lewis

Founded in 1864, John Lewis is a trusted and beloved brand where you can find a diverse range of furniture for every style and budget, alongside finding the perfect item that reflects your personal taste.

A Legacy of Innovation and Inclusion

John Lewis started as a small shop on London's Oxford Street in 1864. Today, it's part of a bigger family called the John Lewis Partnership, which also includes Waitrose stores.

What makes them special is that they're owned by their employees, known as 'Partners'. The idea, from the beginning, was to give everyone a say in how the business was run. With over 74,000 Partners (employees) at the heart of its operations, the essence of John Lewis's vision, from over a century ago, still echoes today being the largest employee-owned venture.

Adapting to Changing Times

Like many stores, John Lewis has had to change with the times. They've closed some shops but have grown their online business a lot, especially when more people started shopping online during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Their history is filled with key moments, like buying Peter Jones in 1905, adding Waitrose in 1937, and starting their website in 2001. They've always tried to adapt and stay relevant.

Commitment to a Greater Purpose

John Lewis believes in doing good and making the world a better place. This is seen in the way they treat their employees and customers. For example, in 2021, they were the first big UK store to give parents six months paid leave when they have a baby and two weeks paid leave if they lose a pregnancy. They've been around for over a century and always aim to do the right thing by everyone.
