Our Hemingway range of furniture offers traditional, heritage-style designs, made from natural materials and built-to-last. This sideboard is made from melia oak solids and pippy oak veneers, stained in a rich, deep colour and hand-polished for durability with a wax lacquer. Antique brass knob handles complete its formal late 19th century aesthetic. There's plenty of storage space thanks to three spacious drawers and two cupboard sections to the side. About the materials used Pippy oak features small, tight clusters of knots which appear sporadically in the growth of the three. This feature is highly valued for its decorative appearance. Melia ash is a fast-growing tree, taking only 20-25 years to mature, and is recognised for its stable and durable qualities. Want to see it first? Its slim legs and classic brass knobs make it equally at home in a modern city apartment or a more traditional setting. Styling tips: • Top with a low, matte vase group or a pair of small table lamps either side of a central mirror or unframed print. • Keep the surface clutter-free - use a decorative tray for mail or keys. • Inside, store table linens or board games to keep living areas tidy. • Tuck a woven basket beneath for extra throws or magazines. This approach shows off the sideboard’s elegant lines while marrying style and function.

A Legacy of Innovation and Inclusion
John Lewis started as a small shop on London's Oxford Street in 1864. Today, it's part of a bigger family called the John Lewis Partnership, which also includes Waitrose stores.
What makes them special is that they're owned by their employees, known as 'Partners'. The idea, from the beginning, was to give everyone a say in how the business was run. With over 74,000 Partners (employees) at the heart of its operations, the essence of John Lewis's vision, from over a century ago, still echoes today being the largest employee-owned venture.
Adapting to Changing Times
Like many stores, John Lewis has had to change with the times. They've closed some shops but have grown their online business a lot, especially when more people started shopping online during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Their history is filled with key moments, like buying Peter Jones in 1905, adding Waitrose in 1937, and starting their website in 2001. They've always tried to adapt and stay relevant.
Commitment to a Greater Purpose
John Lewis believes in doing good and making the world a better place. This is seen in the way they treat their employees and customers. For example, in 2021, they were the first big UK store to give parents six months paid leave when they have a baby and two weeks paid leave if they lose a pregnancy. They've been around for over a century and always aim to do the right thing by everyone.
