Description

This formal sideboard with 3 drawers and 3 cupboards is made from melia oak solids and pippy oak veneers and is hand-polished with wax lacquer. It’s finished with antiqued brass knob handles and can provide essential storage space in your living room, dining room, bedroom or hallway. Pippy oak features small, tight clusters of knots, which appear sporadically in the growth of the tree. This feature is highly valued by master craftsmen for its decorative appearance. Melia ash is a fast growing tree, taking only 20-25 years to mature, and has been used for its stable and durable qualities. The cane used in Hemingway is natural and handmade This elegant furniture is inspired by the formal yet practical look of the late 19th century Arts and Crafts movement. Each piece in the Hemingway range is made from melia oak solids and pippy oak veneers, stained a rich deep colour, and hand-polished with wax lacquer. For a traditional finish, doors and drawers are finished with antiqued brass knob handles. The Hemingway range features a beautifully distressed finish, which makes each piece utterly unique to its owner. Please note: not all our ranges are on display in our shops. Our Stylist Says

I love the John Lewis & Partners Hemingway sideboard for its versatile, timeless appeal and the warm, rich finish that complements a variety of interiors. It works particularly well in both traditional and eclectic settings, adding a sense of classic craftsmanship while providing ample storage. Practical styling tips include pairing it with minimal table décor or a decorative tray on top for a curated look, and using it in dining rooms or living spaces to keep clutter out of sight. Its clean lines and neutral tone make it a flexible piece to elevate both contemporary and vintage-inspired styles.

About John Lewis

Founded in 1864, John Lewis is a trusted and beloved brand where you can find a diverse range of furniture for every style and budget, alongside finding the perfect item that reflects your personal taste.

A Legacy of Innovation and Inclusion

John Lewis started as a small shop on London's Oxford Street in 1864. Today, it's part of a bigger family called the John Lewis Partnership, which also includes Waitrose stores.

What makes them special is that they're owned by their employees, known as 'Partners'. The idea, from the beginning, was to give everyone a say in how the business was run. With over 74,000 Partners (employees) at the heart of its operations, the essence of John Lewis's vision, from over a century ago, still echoes today being the largest employee-owned venture.

Adapting to Changing Times

Like many stores, John Lewis has had to change with the times. They've closed some shops but have grown their online business a lot, especially when more people started shopping online during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Their history is filled with key moments, like buying Peter Jones in 1905, adding Waitrose in 1937, and starting their website in 2001. They've always tried to adapt and stay relevant.

Commitment to a Greater Purpose

John Lewis believes in doing good and making the world a better place. This is seen in the way they treat their employees and customers. For example, in 2021, they were the first big UK store to give parents six months paid leave when they have a baby and two weeks paid leave if they lose a pregnancy. They've been around for over a century and always aim to do the right thing by everyone.
