Description

Made from a combination of solid European oak and hard-wearing veneers, our Essence bed frame has a timeless design. The slatted headboard is carved in a curved shape which contrasts against the clean-lined frame and gently tapered legs. It's easy to assemble and the natural pattern and tone of the wood grain is showcased throughout, making it an adaptable style in both classic and more contemporary interiors. There are also sprung slats in the base which provide a supportive foundation for your mattress. Want to see it first? You may want to see and get a feel for the furniture in one of our shops before ordering. We'll be able to tell you where the range you'd like to view is on display.

Our Stylist Says

I often reach for the oak Essence bed frame because its clean lines and subtle slatted headboard sit neatly between contemporary and traditional schemes. The warm oak tone brings a natural feel without overwhelming a space, and the slim legs give a light, airy look under the mattress. This bed works well in Scandi-inspired rooms, coastal retreats or minimalist bedrooms. Style it with crisp white or muted-stripe linen, layer a textured throw at the foot and introduce a couple of cushions in soft greys or pale blues. Pair with simple bedside tables in a matching wood or painted matt finish, a sculptural lamp and a jute rug to complete the look.

About John Lewis

Founded in 1864, John Lewis is a trusted and beloved brand where you can find a diverse range of furniture for every style and budget, alongside finding the perfect item that reflects your personal taste.

A Legacy of Innovation and Inclusion

John Lewis started as a small shop on London's Oxford Street in 1864. Today, it's part of a bigger family called the John Lewis Partnership, which also includes Waitrose stores.

What makes them special is that they're owned by their employees, known as 'Partners'. The idea, from the beginning, was to give everyone a say in how the business was run. With over 74,000 Partners (employees) at the heart of its operations, the essence of John Lewis's vision, from over a century ago, still echoes today being the largest employee-owned venture.

Adapting to Changing Times

Like many stores, John Lewis has had to change with the times. They've closed some shops but have grown their online business a lot, especially when more people started shopping online during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Their history is filled with key moments, like buying Peter Jones in 1905, adding Waitrose in 1937, and starting their website in 2001. They've always tried to adapt and stay relevant.

Commitment to a Greater Purpose

John Lewis believes in doing good and making the world a better place. This is seen in the way they treat their employees and customers. For example, in 2021, they were the first big UK store to give parents six months paid leave when they have a baby and two weeks paid leave if they lose a pregnancy. They've been around for over a century and always aim to do the right thing by everyone.
