Description

The traditional Charlotte range combines gently flared scrolled arms and tapered legs for an elegant look with fibre-filled cushions you can really sink into. Environmentally friendly fillings We use Quallofil® Blue fibres in our Charlotte range as a more sustainable choice than chemical-based foam fillings. Quallofil® Blue fibres are made using 50% recycled plastic from Plastic Bank; a globally recognised and award-winning solution to stop ocean plastic whilst improving the lives of people living in poverty, who collect the plastic. These fibres give firm, controlled support and are long-lasting so they'll retain the cushion's original appearance instead of becoming squashed and flat over time. Sustainably sourced timber We make sure Charlotte's timber frames are sourced from carefully managed, sustainable forests. Sustainable manufacturing We're proud to work with Westbridge, our manufacturing partner based in North Wales who make our Charlotte range of sofas for us. Westbridge have been making more environmentally friendly choices for over a decade and haven't sent anything to landfill since 2007. They also continue to work hard to offset their carbon footprint by introducing energy-saving procedures and equipment throughout their factory. Worth knowing... As leather is a natural product, there are natural characteristics on each leather hide used to make our sofas. These could be things like brand marks, insect bites or wrinkles. A large sofa could be made with as many as four hides so there may also be some slight colour variation, however, we have strict guidelines to make sure any noticeable marks aren't in a prominent place. These distinctive qualities also mean that no two pieces of leather furniture will be exactly the same. It's the little things At John Lewis & Partners we care about our furniture; how it's designed, the materials used and the people who make it. That's why every detail is carefully considered, with more than 20 quality checks, to ensure you're as proud of it as we are. Want to see it first? You may want to see and get a feel for this piece of furniture in one of our shops before ordering. We'll be able to tell you where the range you'd like to view is on display.

Our Stylist Says

I love this armchair for its timeless appeal and versatile style. The dark leather brings a rich, sophisticated feel that works particularly well in both classic and modern interiors, particularly those with warm tones or neutral palettes. It’s great for creating a cosy reading nook or adding character to a living room. Practical styling tips include pairing it with a soft throw and textured cushions to soften the leather and add comfort. Its sturdy build and dark legs make it low-maintenance, so it’s perfect for daily use. To keep the look fresh, consider combining it with lighter accessories or surrounding it with other leather or wooden furniture to anchor the space cohesively.

About John Lewis

Founded in 1864, John Lewis is a trusted and beloved brand where you can find a diverse range of furniture for every style and budget, alongside finding the perfect item that reflects your personal taste.

A Legacy of Innovation and Inclusion

John Lewis started as a small shop on London's Oxford Street in 1864. Today, it's part of a bigger family called the John Lewis Partnership, which also includes Waitrose stores.

What makes them special is that they're owned by their employees, known as 'Partners'. The idea, from the beginning, was to give everyone a say in how the business was run. With over 74,000 Partners (employees) at the heart of its operations, the essence of John Lewis's vision, from over a century ago, still echoes today being the largest employee-owned venture.

Adapting to Changing Times

Like many stores, John Lewis has had to change with the times. They've closed some shops but have grown their online business a lot, especially when more people started shopping online during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Their history is filled with key moments, like buying Peter Jones in 1905, adding Waitrose in 1937, and starting their website in 2001. They've always tried to adapt and stay relevant.

Commitment to a Greater Purpose

John Lewis believes in doing good and making the world a better place. This is seen in the way they treat their employees and customers. For example, in 2021, they were the first big UK store to give parents six months paid leave when they have a baby and two weeks paid leave if they lose a pregnancy. They've been around for over a century and always aim to do the right thing by everyone.
