"Light constellation. This egg-shaped pendant with its exceptional dimensions produces a truly magical play of light! The multiple light circles are like a myriad of glittering stars or the grand finale of a firework display. Iconic Eyes is like a neo-futuristic chandelier, ultra-contemporary yet with a classic touch. This pendant with its imposing volumes (Ø 60 x H 88 cm) was created by German designer Bernhard Dessecker to equip the Bavarian National Museum in Munich. Borrowing its design from the automotive industry, the Iconic Eyes pendant is inspired by the iconic BMW headlights. The prototype for the lamp was made from real BMW headlight parts: the different pieces were assembled like a puzzle. The Iconic Eyes pendant consists of a multitude of optical frosted glass lenses, rimmed with rings in black & chrome ABS. Each lens contains an integrated LED light source. This accumulation of light discs forms an incredible ovoid structure with repeated patterns. Bernhard Dessecker has more than 30 years’ experience in the field of lighting design. He explains: "What I like about lighting design is that light is never predictable. The quality of the final light is something you cannot predict when you start designing and working on an idea. The collaboration with Moooi was really exciting for me - I didn’t have to compromise on my original idea. Marcel Wanders (director of Moooi) said he wanted the serial version to be as close as possible to the original version. That's one of the reasons I wanted to work with Moooi, because I knew that Marcel would be adventurous enough to do something like that. It's great to see something that looks the way you designed it. ".
I love this eye-shaped pendant for its bold, modern silhouette that acts as a real statement piece in contemporary interiors. Its black and metal finish makes it versatile, working well in spaces like minimalist living rooms, eclectic kitchens, or even striking bedroom schemes. When styling, consider pairing it with clean-lined furniture and monochrome palettes to let the pendant stand out, or add complementary metallic accents to create cohesion. Practical tips include installing it at different heights in a space to add visual interest and draw the eye upwards, making ceilings feel higher. Overall, it’s a quirky but sophisticated addition that effortlessly combines form and function.
