Hope 1931. The word daisy is derived from the term, day’s eye, referring to the flower’s cyclical opening and closing its petals, to sleep at night and awake in the morning when the sun shines. Thus, the daisy is a solar symbol that relates to new beginnings, fresh hopes, light, life energy, but also eternity. The daisy in Paganism represented the sun and stars because of their appearance. In Nordic countries, the daisy was pictured with Freya, the goddess of love, fertility, purity and hope. This plant is common to the Mediterranean and its name essentially means ‘excellent pearl’ in Latin because of its beautiful, pearly petals. Daisy teas are often used to treat bronchitis, coughs and inflammation, the flowers can also be applied to heal wounds on the skin.
Hope 1931 is a charming piece that adds a touch of colour and vintage appeal to any space. I love how the playful floral motif can soften a modern minimalist interior or complement a cosy, traditional setting. It works particularly well in living rooms and bedrooms, where it can act as a focal point or a subtle backdrop. For styling tips, pair it with natural textures like linen or wood to create a balanced, inviting look. Framing it simply in a thin black or aluminium frame ensures it feels contemporary, while a slightly more ornate frame could enhance its nostalgic charm. This print is versatile enough to sit above a sofa, bed, or even in a hallway, bringing a cheerful energy without overwhelming the space.
