Our Stylist Says

I love this jute rug for its natural texture and earthy tone, making it a versatile choice for both classic and contemporary interiors. It works particularly well in outdoor or semi-outdoor spaces like patios, sunrooms, or garden rooms, where its natural fibres can add warmth and a relaxed vibe. Styling tips include layering it with outdoor furniture in neutral shades or adding colourful cushions nearby to create a cosy yet casual look. Because it’s made from jute, it’s perfect for casual or coastal styles, offering an affordable, low-maintenance option that brings a touch of nature indoors or outside. Just keep in mind that, as a natural fibre, it’s best suited to covered outdoor areas to prolong its lifespan.

About Habitat

Founded in 1964, Habitat are a renowned brand, and a go-to destination for modern and stylish furniture and home accessories.

The Birth of Habitat

In 1964, Sir Terence Conran founded Habitat in London, aiming to bring a fresh European touch to UK home decor.

The first store, located on Fulham Road in Chelsea, became the blueprint for all Habitat stores to come. The store stood out with its distinct design, and was famously known for selling affordable pasta storage jars just as the pasta market began booming in the UK.

Rapid Expansion & Legacy

Habitat grew swiftly in the UK during the 1960s and even crossed borders with its first international store in Paris in 1973.

The brand's journey through the decades saw various mergers and acquisitions, including its integration with Sainsbury's Group in 2017.

Habitat's innovation extended beyond products; they even launched a mail-order system in 1966 and initiated the concept of flat-pack furniture in 1971.

Celebrating its rich history, the brand marked its 50th anniversary in 2014 by collaborating with past designers and commissioning a special logo.

Innovation & Collaboration

Habitat has always been at the forefront of modern design. Throughout its history, the brand has been renowned for its collaborations with acclaimed artists and designers, ensuring it consistently offers unique, limited-edition collections.

Under the umbrella of the Sainsbury's Group since 2017, Habitat continues its tradition of merging contemporary aesthetics with functional design, solidifying its reputation as a leading name in home furnishings.
