I’m a big fan of this grey velvet bedstead because the soft upholstery and subtle channel-stitching give a luxe look without feeling over-fussy. The five-level adjustable headboard makes it easy to tailor the height to different mattress profiles or add height if you switch floors, and the slender metal legs keep the overall look light and contemporary.

In 1980, Chris Dawson set up a simple open-air market stall in Plymouth.
