Treat yourself to an ORIGINAL iconic piece by Cappellini. An original will never lose its value. It will stay with you for your whole life, and even longer, perfect for passing on to the next generation. The talent of two of the biggest names of the past century has been combined to create a modern project that is both abstract and concrete… Designer Shiro Kuramata (1934 - 1991) revolutionised post-war Japanese design by blending Japanese elegance and simplicity with modern materials and cutting-edge techniques. Shiro Kuramata's style is imbued with humour and poetry, combined in the quest of a lightweight and minimalist style. Recognised as one of the greatest designers of the 20th Century, his creations are now features in the collections of leading museums around the world. Kuramata's work has been strongly influenced by contemporary abstract artists, such as Piet Mondrian and Donald Judd. In 1975, Shiro Kuramata created "Homage to Mondrian": These furniture pieces were inspired by the work of Piet Mondrian and pay homage to one of abstract expressionism's leading pioneers. The Dutch painter's canvases have been transposed onto wood. Colourful and geometric, the bold pattern contrasts with the reigning, formal purity of the piece. This wheel-mounted piece has multiple doors and drawers. Each door and drawer is a different size. Shiro Kuramata's creations are now exhibited in the most prestigious museums around the world, such as the MoMA in New York, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, the Vitra Design Museum in Basel, and the National Museum of Modern Art in Kyoto. Shiro Kuramata's production method essentially consists of limited and rare series which achieve incredibly high prices at auction.
