The Metro collection by Piovenefabi for valerie_objects takes its inspiration from the iconic handrails of the Milan metro. First presented as a floor lamp at the 2017 Chicago Architecture Biennial, the design has evolved into a playful collection of lighting. Originally created in the metro’s distinctive red, the floor lamp is now available in additional colours referencing the transport network. Piovenefabi has also deconstructed the original design into its essential geometric forms, reassembling them to create three characterful table lamps and a coordinating wall light.
This floor lamp is a modern, sculptural piece that instantly adds visual interest to any room. I love its minimalist form and clean lines, making it versatile enough for both contemporary and Scandinavian-inspired interiors. It works particularly well in living rooms or reading nooks where its tall, slim profile can complement seating arrangements without overwhelming. Practical styling tips include pairing it with a textured or neutral-toned sofa to highlight its sleek design, and placing it next to a comfortable armchair or side table to use as task lighting. Its understated elegance means it can slot into various interiors, from minimalist to eclectic, providing both function and a subtle design statement.
