Statement-Making. Design-led. A future icon. These are just a few of the words that have been used to describe the new Isola range of upholstery. The pieces are the brainchild of Lucy Kurrein, an up and coming London-based designer who created this stunning range exclusively for Heal’s. A highly contemporary collection, Isola is one of our most forward-thinking ranges and would be right at home in the modern design shows of Milan and Paris. Lucy was influenced by natural landscapes such as the solitary floating islands that offer a place of refuge to passers-by. The sweeping lines and elegant silhouette are reminiscent of the large stretches of sand you find on a deserted beach. The Isola range uses a mixture of different foam fillings, including a luxury memory foam, offering supreme comfort and support. The backrest features subtle seam detailing to emphasise its curvaceous silhouette and its generous seat is supported by refined metal legs in gun metal black. The small and large ottoman echoes the shape of the armchair and sofa creating a beautiful synergy between the pieces.
I love how the Isola boucle chair’s soft, rounded form and textured grey fabric bring a relaxed yet refined feel to a room. Its slim bronze legs work equally well in contemporary, Scandi or industrial schemes, where the boucle adds warmth and contrast against metal or concrete finishes. For styling, team it with a low-profile brass or dark-wood side table, a contrasting wool cushion and a leather throw to introduce layers of texture. Tuck it into a corner with a slender floor lamp and a small stack of books for a cosy reading nook, or float it in an open-plan living area to define a casual seating zone without overwhelming the space.
