Description

With this customisable collection, think of yourself as artistic director, as we put the power of design in your hands. Using the Berlin Bench as your base, we give you the unique opportunity to craft the perfect platform, whether for dining with great friends or relaxing with a good book. All are made from solid wood that’s built to last and are inspired by the edginess of their namesake city. Think clean and minimalist lines with a distinct industrial aesthetic. But that’s where the similarities between each bench ends. Because they come in a beautifully different selection of oiled finishes and various sizes to suit all tastes and spaces. Natural knots and oversized or beautifully smooth and small? It’s all up to you. Meaning a bespoke piece that’s uniquely yours.

Our Stylist Says

I really like the Berlin Bench for its clean, understated lines and versatile design. Its smoked oak top adds a warm touch, making it suitable for both contemporary and industrial-style interiors. The stainless steel legs bring a modern edge, while the straight edge keeps things simple and practical. It works particularly well in open-plan living or reception areas, serving as a striking entryway piece or an alternative lounge seating option. Practical styling tips include pairing it with plush cushions or a throw to soften the look and add comfort. It also pairs nicely with neutral-toned furnishings or as a statement piece in more minimal spaces, adding both function and aesthetic appeal.

About Heal's

Founded in 1810, Heal's are an iconic brand with a history of innovation, and are synonymous with timeless elegance and exceptional design.

A Rich Legacy in Furniture Design

Heal's is a well-known British furniture store with a history that spans over 200 years. It began in 1810 when John Harris Heal and his son started a business for feather products but soon moved into furniture.

By the 1900s, almost everyone in London knew Heal's for its great furniture. Interestingly, they were also among the first to sell electric lights in Britain. During World War II, their main store even helped by making parachutes for soldiers.

Influences and Design Philosophy

A significant part of Heal's story is Sir Ambrose Heal, who worked there for 60 years, from 1893 to 1953. He had a unique idea combine the beautiful designs from the Arts and Crafts Movement with affordable manufacturing.

This meant more people could buy well-designed furniture without breaking the bank. If you visit the Heal's store on Tottenham Court Road in London, you'll see a cool spiral staircase and a statue of a bronze cat, both of which show off the company's unique style.

Modern Expansion and Growth

While Heal's has a long history, they're always looking forward. In 2001, a company named Wittington Investments bought Heal's, helping it to grow and open stores in many cities, including Manchester and Leeds.

They've also started selling products online, aiming to be a modern e-commerce store with physical showrooms. Their main Tottenham Court Road store celebrated 200 years in 2018. Recently, they revamped it, making it even better for shoppers.
