I’m a fan of this rustic-industrial desk for its mix of warm, reclaimed-look timber and sturdy black metal legs - it brings just the right balance of texture and structure to a workspace. At around 80 cm wide, it’s ideal for compact corners, loft-style flats or a pared-back home office where you don’t want an overbearing footprint.
Styling-wise, keep your colour palette neutral: a slim black task lamp, monochrome notebook and one or two potted plants will enhance the industrial vibe without cluttering the surface. Fit a discreet cable tray underneath to hide plugs, and if you need extra storage, mount a simple shelf above the desk rather than crowding the floor. That way you’ll maintain a clean, purposeful look while still feeling inviting.

In 1980, Chris Dawson set up a simple open-air market stall in Plymouth.
