Our Stylist Says

I love this sofa because the burnt orange velvet adds a warm, inviting touch that works beautifully in both contemporary and mid-century styled interiors. Its soft texture and colour provide versatility, pairing well with neutral tones or bold, patterned cushions for a personalised look. It’s a practical choice for living rooms that aim for comfort without sacrificing style. To keep the velvet looking its best, avoid placing it in direct sunlight and consider using a fabric protector. Styling tip: dress it with contrasting cushions or a cosy throw to create a layered, lived-in feel, and pair with light wood or brass accents to highlight its ash-toned legs for a cohesive, modern finish.

About Habitat

Founded in 1964, Habitat are a renowned brand, and a go-to destination for modern and stylish furniture and home accessories.

The Birth of Habitat

In 1964, Sir Terence Conran founded Habitat in London, aiming to bring a fresh European touch to UK home decor.

The first store, located on Fulham Road in Chelsea, became the blueprint for all Habitat stores to come. The store stood out with its distinct design, and was famously known for selling affordable pasta storage jars just as the pasta market began booming in the UK.

Rapid Expansion & Legacy

Habitat grew swiftly in the UK during the 1960s and even crossed borders with its first international store in Paris in 1973.

The brand's journey through the decades saw various mergers and acquisitions, including its integration with Sainsbury's Group in 2017.

Habitat's innovation extended beyond products; they even launched a mail-order system in 1966 and initiated the concept of flat-pack furniture in 1971.

Celebrating its rich history, the brand marked its 50th anniversary in 2014 by collaborating with past designers and commissioning a special logo.

Innovation & Collaboration

Habitat has always been at the forefront of modern design. Throughout its history, the brand has been renowned for its collaborations with acclaimed artists and designers, ensuring it consistently offers unique, limited-edition collections.

Under the umbrella of the Sainsbury's Group since 2017, Habitat continues its tradition of merging contemporary aesthetics with functional design, solidifying its reputation as a leading name in home furnishings.
