Description

Hand crafted in Italy, the Smithfield tan leather armchair has a soft, sculptural silhouette with feather and fibre filled seat cushions for comfort. Designed by Aaron Probyn for the Habitat Design Reunion project to celebrate our 50th birthday, the Smithfield chair is inspired by the era of classic car design and is hand crafted in a very traditional way that uses age old techniques. The lounge chair features rounded rolled arms and low back, creating a continual line that is punctuated by the delicate wooden feet. Equally suited to a traditional or modern environment, the Smithfield armchair is a classic design that will transcend fashions and current trends. The lounge chair is upholstered in aniline leather, which allows the natural characteristics of the hide to show through and it is the most premium natural looking leather available on the market. Our Stylist Says

I love this armchair because it offers a stylish yet practical addition to various interiors. Its tan leather finish adds warmth and versatility, making it perfect for both contemporary and mid-century modern schemes. The understated shape and wooden legs give it a timeless appeal, while the cushioned seat and back provide comfort for everyday use. When styling, consider pairing it with neutral tones and textured throws or cushions to create a cosy corner, or mix it with bold colours and patterns for a more eclectic look. It works particularly well in living rooms, reading nooks, or even bedrooms where you want a statement piece that remains functional. Practical tip: avoid placing it in direct sunlight to preserve the leather’s quality over time.

About Habitat

Founded in 1964, Habitat are a renowned brand, and a go-to destination for modern and stylish furniture and home accessories.

The Birth of Habitat

In 1964, Sir Terence Conran founded Habitat in London, aiming to bring a fresh European touch to UK home decor.

The first store, located on Fulham Road in Chelsea, became the blueprint for all Habitat stores to come. The store stood out with its distinct design, and was famously known for selling affordable pasta storage jars just as the pasta market began booming in the UK.

Rapid Expansion & Legacy

Habitat grew swiftly in the UK during the 1960s and even crossed borders with its first international store in Paris in 1973.

The brand's journey through the decades saw various mergers and acquisitions, including its integration with Sainsbury's Group in 2017.

Habitat's innovation extended beyond products; they even launched a mail-order system in 1966 and initiated the concept of flat-pack furniture in 1971.

Celebrating its rich history, the brand marked its 50th anniversary in 2014 by collaborating with past designers and commissioning a special logo.

Innovation & Collaboration

Habitat has always been at the forefront of modern design. Throughout its history, the brand has been renowned for its collaborations with acclaimed artists and designers, ensuring it consistently offers unique, limited-edition collections.

Under the umbrella of the Sainsbury's Group since 2017, Habitat continues its tradition of merging contemporary aesthetics with functional design, solidifying its reputation as a leading name in home furnishings.
