This versatile wide leaning bookcase provides generous storage and display space for books and decorative objects. Jessie has clean, crisp lines in walnut veneer with solid oak uprights and a durable, lacquered finish, and attaches to the wall for safety. Part of the Jessie collection. Made from wood. 5 fixed shelves. Self-assembly. If this product is over 60cm high it must be securely attached to the wall to prevent overturning (fixings included). The Birth of Habitat
In 1964, Sir Terence Conran founded Habitat in London, aiming to bring a fresh European touch to UK home decor.
The first store, located on Fulham Road in Chelsea, became the blueprint for all Habitat stores to come. The store stood out with its distinct design, and was famously known for selling affordable pasta storage jars just as the pasta market began booming in the UK.
Rapid Expansion & Legacy
Habitat grew swiftly in the UK during the 1960s and even crossed borders with its first international store in Paris in 1973.
The brand's journey through the decades saw various mergers and acquisitions, including its integration with Sainsbury's Group in 2017.
Habitat's innovation extended beyond products; they even launched a mail-order system in 1966 and initiated the concept of flat-pack furniture in 1971.
Celebrating its rich history, the brand marked its 50th anniversary in 2014 by collaborating with past designers and commissioning a special logo.
