Description

Treat yourself to an ORIGINAL iconic piece by Vitra. An original will always hold its value. It will stay with you for your whole life and will outlive you, being passed on to the next generation. A self-taught architect with a passion for industrialising buildings, Jean Prouvé (1901 - 1984) is now considered a leading architect and one of the greatest designers of the 20th century, on a par with Le Corbusier and Charlotte Perriand. A pioneer, Prouvé played a major role in the development of mass production techniques in the European post-war modernist movement. Jean Prouvé developed a "constructive thought" based on a logic of series manufacturing and functionality to create an aesthetic that’s purified of all artifice. The designer has a wide portfolio of designs ranging from prefabricated homes to furniture for offices, classrooms and interiors. Jean Prouvé's creations have become icons of the post-war period and have spanned the whole century. In the early 1940s, Jean Prouvé devoted himself more and more to woodworking. Designed in 1944, the Guéridon Bas coffee table bears the inimitable signature of French designer and engineer Jean Prouvé. It consists of a heavy solid wooden top resting on three legs made from the same wood. These elements are interconnected by a sturdy structure made of folded sheet steel. Available in different types of wood, this restrained table, with its pure modernist style, adapts to the most diverse settings.

Our Stylist Says

This low coffee table by Jean Prouvé is a versatile piece that works well in both contemporary and Scandi-inspired interiors, thanks to its clean lines and natural wood finish. I love how straightforward and honest its design is, making it suitable for casual living spaces, family rooms, or even a modern lounge. Stylistically, it pairs beautifully with neutral or pastel colour schemes, but can also serve as a grounding element amidst bolder accents. Practical tips include using it as a centrepiece in a seating arrangement, keeping accessories minimal so the craftsmanship remains the focal point, or styling it with a few carefully selected magazines, plants, or ceramic objects for a simple, elegant look. Its size and sturdy form make it ideal for everyday use, without compromising on aesthetic appeal.
