Price History

Description

The unmistakable silhouette of Gretta Grossman's dark-red Gräshoppa Floor Lamp for Gubi ensures it remains an icon of mid-twentieth century design. The unique form of the Gräshoppa Lamp resembles the insect it is named after as its tubular steel tripod base stands at an angle, giving the impression of a grasshopper stalking its prey. The lamp is finished with a conical shade crafted from powder-coated steel and accented with a rotating brass fitting that allows you to create targeted lighting with minimum glare. Created in 1947 by the Swedish-born and California-based designer, the lamp is heavily influenced by European modernism. Inspired by designers such as Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Walter Gropius, Grossman herself was a pioneer in shaping the aesthetic of mid-century North American modernism. Requires: 1 x Max 4.6W E14 LED Bulb (not included)

Our Stylist Says

I love the red floor lamp for its clean, minimalist silhouette with a playful and energetic pop of colour. It works particularly well in contemporary spaces or pared-back interiors where it can serve as a statement piece without overwhelming the décor. Its angled form makes it ideal for task lighting in a reading nook or beside a sofa, while adding a touch of personality to both living rooms and bedrooms. For styling tips, try pairing it with neutral furniture for maximum impact, or complement it with other warm tones and textures for a cosy yet modern feel. Its lightweight and flexible design also make it easy to move around, giving you versatility to update your space effortlessly.
