Description

Avant-garde contemporary design… Young French designer Thomas Defour lives and works between Paris and Hyères. A nod to the Mediterranean and craft traditions of the south of France, the Grand Ribaud armchair consists of a fishing net seat stretched over a curved steel tube structure. The net is attached to the structure using techniques traditionally used for nautical fittings. The nylon net offers the comfort and durability of a catamaran trampoline. An ironic, offbeat interpretation of an ordinary object, the fishing net which, once transformed, becomes a dream object. The openwork surface of the net creates an intangible, ethereal volume. Playing with transparency, the silhouette is incredibly ethereal. With its soft, airy seat, this armchair is perfect for lounging in the garden or on the terrace. The net dries very quickly in the event of rain and is easily cleaned with a jet of water. Combining industrial processes and artisanal know-how, the Grand Ribaud armchair is entirely made in France. Thomas Defour: “This era is very inspiring for our generation. It’s a period during which manufacturers followed the radical ideas of young designers. This resulted in more desirable objects, not just functional ones. It’s this way of producing unusual but rational forms that drives me. ‘’ Halfway between sculpture and craftsmanship, Thomas Defour's technique has developed in a fusion of two methods, visual and applied, based around solar influences. French designer 13. Desserts approaches design from a radical perspective, seeking balance between artistic freedom, mass production and "collectability". Giving pride of place to experimentation, this emerging design label explores new production avenues combining industrial processes and artisanal know-how. Uninhibited by the codes and trends that govern the market, the young guard of French design expresses itself freely, offering a selection of radically unique pieces.

Our Stylist Says

I love this blue metal armchair for its modern yet playful aesthetic, making it a great statement piece in both contemporary and eclectic interiors. Its bold colour and distinctive shape work well paired with neutral sofas or as a standalone accent in a reading nook or bedroom corner. Practical styling tips include mixing it with soft textiles, such as a textured throw or patterned cushions, to soften the metal frame and add inviting comfort. It also looks fantastic with contrasting materials like natural wood or greenery to enhance its fresh, vibrant vibe. This chair is versatile enough to blend into various colour schemes, adding personality without overwhelming the space.
