Avant-garde contemporary design… Young French designer Thomas Defour lives and works between Paris and Hyères. A nod to the Mediterranean and craft traditions of the south of France, the Grand Ribaud armchair consists of a fishing net seat stretched over a curved steel tube structure. The net is attached to the structure using techniques traditionally used for nautical fittings. The nylon net offers the comfort and durability of a catamaran trampoline. An ironic, offbeat interpretation of an ordinary object, the fishing net which, once transformed, becomes a dream object. The openwork surface of the net creates an intangible, ethereal volume. Playing with transparency, the silhouette is incredibly ethereal. With its soft, airy seat, this armchair is perfect for lounging in the garden or on the terrace. The net dries very quickly in the event of rain and is easily cleaned with a jet of water. Combining industrial processes and artisanal know-how, the Grand Ribaud armchair is entirely made in France.
