Description

'Beneath the Surface', an abstract work by Grace Rowan. Made in the UK, this print comes mounted and framed in a simple black box moulding, ready to hang on your wall. Grace Rowan is a contemporary painter, creating abstract landscapes in bright fluid acrylics. Her work is a colourful celebration of natural landscapes and our deep connection to the earth. Her paintings are highly textured and layers of transparent colour are used to explore the reflection of natural light and hidden layers within the natural environment. A central theme of her work is the visual symmetry of land, water and sky as they converge upon a common horizon. Grace’s passion for art began in her youth. She initially pursued a career using ‘art as therapy’ in her work as an occupational therapist, eventually launching her career as a full-time visual artist in 2006. Grace’s work as an artist is deeply connected to her spiritual practices which include transcendental meditation and yoga. She currently lives in Kingston, Ontario, Canada where she spends her time painting and giving herself permission to live a gentle, happy life. Have you thought about wall hooks and fittings?

Our Stylist Says

This 'Beneath the Surface' canvas is a versatile piece that works especially well in contemporary or coastal-inspired interiors. Its teal hue adds a calming touch and can serve as a focal point on neutral walls or complement other colours in the room. I love pairing it with minimalist furniture to let the artwork stand out, or mixing it amid natural textures like linen and rattan for an effortless, relaxed vibe. Practical styling tips include hanging it at eye level in living spaces or bedrooms, and keeping surrounding accessories simple to let the print do the talking. Its size also makes it a great statement piece for a large wall or above a sideboard or sofa.

About John Lewis

Founded in 1864, John Lewis is a trusted and beloved brand where you can find a diverse range of furniture for every style and budget, alongside finding the perfect item that reflects your personal taste.

A Legacy of Innovation and Inclusion

John Lewis started as a small shop on London's Oxford Street in 1864. Today, it's part of a bigger family called the John Lewis Partnership, which also includes Waitrose stores.

What makes them special is that they're owned by their employees, known as 'Partners'. The idea, from the beginning, was to give everyone a say in how the business was run. With over 74,000 Partners (employees) at the heart of its operations, the essence of John Lewis's vision, from over a century ago, still echoes today being the largest employee-owned venture.

Adapting to Changing Times

Like many stores, John Lewis has had to change with the times. They've closed some shops but have grown their online business a lot, especially when more people started shopping online during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Their history is filled with key moments, like buying Peter Jones in 1905, adding Waitrose in 1937, and starting their website in 2001. They've always tried to adapt and stay relevant.

Commitment to a Greater Purpose

John Lewis believes in doing good and making the world a better place. This is seen in the way they treat their employees and customers. For example, in 2021, they were the first big UK store to give parents six months paid leave when they have a baby and two weeks paid leave if they lose a pregnancy. They've been around for over a century and always aim to do the right thing by everyone.
