Description

A selection of truly unique and totally individual traditional hand-knotted rugs, this range from Gooch Oriental showcases rugs created by different artisans across town and village locations across the world, including traditional Persian creations. Each piece is carefully selected by the Gooch Oriental team to ensure it's authenticity, quality and finish. Each one is knotted by hand, an intricate process using traditional hand knotting techniques. As such, no two pieces are the same, meaning you can add an authentic and unique piece of crafted design into your home, whilst supporting this heritage industry. The supreme Kazak design is mainly made by the Hazara Tribes of Afghanistan. The design and patterns of Kazak rugs are taken from old Caucasian rugs (Caucasian carpets are from the areas south, east and north of the mountain chain of the Caucasus, Russia). The wool yarns used are all hand spun and dyed using only natural dyes such as cochineal and indigo, which adds to their dramatic and vibrant appearance. Once dyed and hand knotted on a cotton warp base in Afghanistan the rugs are then transported over to Pakistan where they are expertly finished including washing and trimming. The method used to hand make a Kazak rug is called ‘’Chappat. Baft’’ or Flat woven. Kazak rug weavers are faithful in using traditional bold colour and design mainly with geometrical motifs including a mixture of diamond and circle shapes as well as representations of animals, people and nature. In 1sqm of a Supreme Kazak rug there would be around 160000 + knots giving a fine-density pile. About your new rug We recommend John Lewis & Partners Rug Hold Underlay. Our Stylist Says

I love this rug for its bold yet versatile design; the intricate pattern and rich blue tones make it a standout piece that can anchor a room. It works particularly well in traditional or eclectic interiors, adding warmth and character to living rooms or studies. For styling tips, consider pairing it with neutral furnishings to let the rug take centre stage, or layer it with textured textiles for a cosy, layered look. Due to its size, it’s best placed under a coffee table or dining table, where it can define the space without overpowering the room’s overall flow. Its durable design also means it’s practical for high-traffic areas, making it both a stylish and functional addition.

About John Lewis

Founded in 1864, John Lewis is a trusted and beloved brand where you can find a diverse range of furniture for every style and budget, alongside finding the perfect item that reflects your personal taste.

A Legacy of Innovation and Inclusion

John Lewis started as a small shop on London's Oxford Street in 1864. Today, it's part of a bigger family called the John Lewis Partnership, which also includes Waitrose stores.

What makes them special is that they're owned by their employees, known as 'Partners'. The idea, from the beginning, was to give everyone a say in how the business was run. With over 74,000 Partners (employees) at the heart of its operations, the essence of John Lewis's vision, from over a century ago, still echoes today being the largest employee-owned venture.

Adapting to Changing Times

Like many stores, John Lewis has had to change with the times. They've closed some shops but have grown their online business a lot, especially when more people started shopping online during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Their history is filled with key moments, like buying Peter Jones in 1905, adding Waitrose in 1937, and starting their website in 2001. They've always tried to adapt and stay relevant.

Commitment to a Greater Purpose

John Lewis believes in doing good and making the world a better place. This is seen in the way they treat their employees and customers. For example, in 2021, they were the first big UK store to give parents six months paid leave when they have a baby and two weeks paid leave if they lose a pregnancy. They've been around for over a century and always aim to do the right thing by everyone.
