Description

A selection of truly unique and totally individual traditional hand-knotted rugs, this range from Gooch Oriental showcases rugs created by different artisans across town and village locations across the world, including traditional Persian creations. Each piece is carefully selected by the Gooch Oriental team to ensure it's authenticity, quality and finish. Each one is knotted by hand, an intricate process using traditional hand knotting techniques. As such, no two pieces are the same, meaning you can add an authentic and unique piece of crafted design into your home, whilst supporting this heritage industry. The Quashgai design mainly originates from South Western Persia (Iran). They are made by Nomadic tribes which move twice a year between different pastures. Each piece is unique and based around a central medallion design style, they are hand knotted freely without following a pattern and taught from generation to generation. These rugs are usually made with 100% local wool using a mixture of both vegetable and chemical dyes. In 1sqm of Quashqai rugs there would be around 250000 + knots giving a mid-density pile. Our Stylist Says

I love this Gooch Oriental Quashgai rug for its vibrant red and multi-coloured palette, which injects warmth and character into a space. It works beautifully in both traditional and eclectic interiors, adding a touch of exotic charm without overwhelming the room. Practical styling tips include placing it under a coffee table in a living area to anchor the space, or using it as a focal point in a neutral-toned hallway. Its size makes it versatile for sofas or accentuating a seating nook. Pair with wooden or antique furniture to highlight its historic charm, or offset with modern, minimalist pieces for an eclectic contrast. This rug is a great way to introduce colour and pattern without it dominating your entire decor scheme.

About John Lewis

Founded in 1864, John Lewis is a trusted and beloved brand where you can find a diverse range of furniture for every style and budget, alongside finding the perfect item that reflects your personal taste.

A Legacy of Innovation and Inclusion

John Lewis started as a small shop on London's Oxford Street in 1864. Today, it's part of a bigger family called the John Lewis Partnership, which also includes Waitrose stores.

What makes them special is that they're owned by their employees, known as 'Partners'. The idea, from the beginning, was to give everyone a say in how the business was run. With over 74,000 Partners (employees) at the heart of its operations, the essence of John Lewis's vision, from over a century ago, still echoes today being the largest employee-owned venture.

Adapting to Changing Times

Like many stores, John Lewis has had to change with the times. They've closed some shops but have grown their online business a lot, especially when more people started shopping online during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Their history is filled with key moments, like buying Peter Jones in 1905, adding Waitrose in 1937, and starting their website in 2001. They've always tried to adapt and stay relevant.

Commitment to a Greater Purpose

John Lewis believes in doing good and making the world a better place. This is seen in the way they treat their employees and customers. For example, in 2021, they were the first big UK store to give parents six months paid leave when they have a baby and two weeks paid leave if they lose a pregnancy. They've been around for over a century and always aim to do the right thing by everyone.
