Description

A selection of truly unique and totally individual traditional hand-knotted rugs, this range from Gooch Oriental showcases rugs created by different artisans across town and village locations across the world, including traditional Persian creations. Each piece is carefully selected by the Gooch Oriental team to ensure it's authenticity, quality and finish. Each one is knotted by hand, an intricate process using traditional hand knotting techniques. As such, no two pieces are the same, meaning you can add an authentic and unique piece of crafted design into your home, whilst supporting this heritage industry. The word ‘Khurjeen or Khorjeen’ means ‘’saddle bag’’ in Dari/Farsi. The reason why they chose this name is because of the pattern/style used on the saddle bags. Khurjeen rugs are woven by Turkmen and Hazara tribes in the central and Northern provinces of Afghanistan. The design and patterns of Khurjeen rugs are taken from Saddle bags having different warm colours and straight strips too. Khujeen rugs are unique because of their pattern and delicate designs specially mixing contemporary and traditional designs together. The wool yarns used are all hand spun and dyed using only natural dyes such as cochineal and indigo, which adds to their dramatic and vibrant appearance. Once dyed and hand knotted on a cotton warp base in Afghanistan the rugs are then transported over to Pakistan where they are expertly finished including washing and trimming. In 1sqm of Khurjeen rug there would be around 170000 + knots. About your new rug We recommend. Our Stylist Says

The Gooch Oriental Khurjeen Runner is a fantastic choice for adding colour and character to a variety of interiors. I love how its rich, warm tones can complement both traditional and eclectic decors, making it versatile for hallways, kitchens, or staircases. It works well styled with wooden or neutral furniture to let the pattern and colours stand out. For practical tips, consider layering it over a plain, contrasting rug or placing it underneath a dining table to protect flooring while creating a cosy, inviting space. Its size and design make it a great focal point without overwhelming the room, offering both style and function in one.

About John Lewis

Founded in 1864, John Lewis is a trusted and beloved brand where you can find a diverse range of furniture for every style and budget, alongside finding the perfect item that reflects your personal taste.

A Legacy of Innovation and Inclusion

John Lewis started as a small shop on London's Oxford Street in 1864. Today, it's part of a bigger family called the John Lewis Partnership, which also includes Waitrose stores.

What makes them special is that they're owned by their employees, known as 'Partners'. The idea, from the beginning, was to give everyone a say in how the business was run. With over 74,000 Partners (employees) at the heart of its operations, the essence of John Lewis's vision, from over a century ago, still echoes today being the largest employee-owned venture.

Adapting to Changing Times

Like many stores, John Lewis has had to change with the times. They've closed some shops but have grown their online business a lot, especially when more people started shopping online during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Their history is filled with key moments, like buying Peter Jones in 1905, adding Waitrose in 1937, and starting their website in 2001. They've always tried to adapt and stay relevant.

Commitment to a Greater Purpose

John Lewis believes in doing good and making the world a better place. This is seen in the way they treat their employees and customers. For example, in 2021, they were the first big UK store to give parents six months paid leave when they have a baby and two weeks paid leave if they lose a pregnancy. They've been around for over a century and always aim to do the right thing by everyone.
