A selection of truly unique and totally individual traditional hand-knotted rugs, this range from Gooch Oriental showcases rugs created by different artisans across town and village locations across the world, including traditional Persian creations. Each piece is carefully selected by the Gooch Oriental team to ensure it's authenticity, quality and finish. Each one is knotted by hand, an intricate process using traditional hand knotting techniques. As such, no two pieces are the same, meaning you can add an authentic and unique piece of crafted design into your home, whilst supporting this heritage industry. The word ‘Khurjeen or Khorjeen’ means ‘’saddle bag’’ in Dari/Farsi. The reason why they chose this name is because of the pattern/style used on the saddle bags. Khurjeen rugs are woven by Turkmen and Hazara tribes in the central and Northern provinces of Afghanistan. The design and patterns of Khurjeen rugs are taken from Saddle bags having different warm colours and straight strips too. Khujeen rugs are unique because of their pattern and delicate designs specially mixing contemporary and traditional designs together. The wool yarns used are all hand spun and dyed using only natural dyes such as cochineal and indigo, which adds to their dramatic and vibrant appearance. Once dyed and hand knotted on a cotton warp base in Afghanistan the rugs are then transported over to Pakistan where they are expertly finished including washing and trimming. In 1sqm of Khurjeen rug there would be around 170000 + knots. About your new rug We recommend. The Gooch Oriental Khurjeen rug is a vibrant piece that adds a lively touch to both contemporary and traditional interiors. I love how its colourful, pattern-rich design can serve as a statement piece, injecting personality without overpowering a space. It works beautifully in living rooms or bedrooms when paired with neutral furnishings to let the colours pop, but it can also complement more eclectic or bohemian schemes. Practical styling tips include layering it over larger, understated rugs for added texture or placing it under a dining table to anchor the space. Its size makes it versatile for various room layouts, and its rich, multi-hued palette ensures it remains a focal point wherever you choose to place it.
