Description

A selection of truly unique and totally individual traditional hand-knotted rugs, this range from Gooch Oriental showcases rugs created by different artisans across town and village locations across the world, including traditional Persian creations. Each piece is carefully selected by the Gooch Oriental team to ensure it's authenticity, quality and finish. Each one is knotted by hand, an intricate process using traditional hand knotting techniques. As such, no two pieces are the same, meaning you can add an authentic and unique piece of crafted design into your home, whilst supporting this heritage industry. Ersari is one of the most important Turkoman tribes, it's people are considered among the best weavers of the 24 clans with the most specialist and smallest clans being Ersari and Tekke. Originally nomadic, these proud people are mostly settled in Northern Afghanistan in the area bordered by Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. These fine rugs are dyed using traditional natural vegetable dyes and then hand knotted in Northern Afghanistan before being transported over to Pakistan where they are expertly finished including washing and trimming. The design remains traditional however in the last few years they have introduced a somewhat wider range of colours. These rugs are made using 100% hand spun wool on cotton warp. In 1sqm of Ersari rugs there would be around 150000 + knots which bearing in mind the unique quality of wool yarn allows for a fine density and lower pile to best showcase the pattern. About your new rug We recommend John Lewis & Partners Rug Hold Underlay. It prevents your rug from moving underfoot and protects against colour transfer to the floor Natural fibres may shed. This will reduce over time, and shouldn’t affect your rug’s lifespan or performance When vacuuming your rug, use suction only. Rotating brushes may damage the fibres Blot any spills with a clean, dry cloth. Do not rub or use harsh detergents. Textile backed

Our Stylist Says

I love the Gooch Oriental Ersari Rug for its rich red tones and intricate pattern, which instantly brings warmth and character to any space. It works particularly well in more traditional or eclectic interiors, adding a touch of global charm. For practical styling, consider placing it under a neutral sofa or dining table to let the colours and details stand out, or pair it with wooden furniture for a cohesive look. Due to its size, it’s versatile enough for both living rooms and larger bedrooms. To keep the rug looking its best, rotate it regularly and utilise a rug pad to prevent slipping and prolong its lifespan.

About John Lewis

Founded in 1864, John Lewis is a trusted and beloved brand where you can find a diverse range of furniture for every style and budget, alongside finding the perfect item that reflects your personal taste.

A Legacy of Innovation and Inclusion

John Lewis started as a small shop on London's Oxford Street in 1864. Today, it's part of a bigger family called the John Lewis Partnership, which also includes Waitrose stores.

What makes them special is that they're owned by their employees, known as 'Partners'. The idea, from the beginning, was to give everyone a say in how the business was run. With over 74,000 Partners (employees) at the heart of its operations, the essence of John Lewis's vision, from over a century ago, still echoes today being the largest employee-owned venture.

Adapting to Changing Times

Like many stores, John Lewis has had to change with the times. They've closed some shops but have grown their online business a lot, especially when more people started shopping online during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Their history is filled with key moments, like buying Peter Jones in 1905, adding Waitrose in 1937, and starting their website in 2001. They've always tried to adapt and stay relevant.

Commitment to a Greater Purpose

John Lewis believes in doing good and making the world a better place. This is seen in the way they treat their employees and customers. For example, in 2021, they were the first big UK store to give parents six months paid leave when they have a baby and two weeks paid leave if they lose a pregnancy. They've been around for over a century and always aim to do the right thing by everyone.
