I’m a fan of these Selma dining chairs for their clean lines and warm oak legs, which slot straight into Scandi, modern farmhouse or even pared-back contemporary schemes. The neutral linen-style upholstery makes them a versatile backdrop - you can layer on seasonal cushions or drape a lightweight throw over the back without overwhelming the look. For practical styling, pair a set of four or six around a natural wood table and ground the grouping with a jute or sisal rug. If you’re after a bit more contrast, introduce charcoal-toned placemats or a bold runner down the middle of the table. Their slender profile also means they don’t crowd a smaller dining area, so you still have room for a slim sideboard or console.

John Lewis started as a small shop on London's Oxford Street in 1864. Today, it's part of a bigger family called the John Lewis Partnership, which also includes Waitrose stores.
