Vintage icon. Sammode Studio is reissuing a selection of lights designed in the 1950s by an iconic figure of post-war French design: Pierre Guariche (1926 – 1995). These strikingly modern lamps are pure of shape and very innovative for the post-war period. The original models of the lights from Pierre Guariche are now reaching new heights in the auction houses. As such, Sammode Studio is revisiting the avant-guard spirit of one of its leading creators in terms of lights from the 1950s. Faithful to the original and integrating contemporary technology, these lights benefit, like all the Sammode lights, from outstanding workmanship. All the Sammode lights are made, assembled and packaged in the factory of Châtillon-sur-Saône in Vosges. Very prolific, in the 1950s, Pierre Guariche designed a multitude of lighting models corresponding to different uses. His lights offer great user comfort and optimal light quality. There’s no apparent light source, thus avoiding glare. Pierre Guariche didn’t study the possibility of expressing a style, but the best way of lighting a room. The technological ambition of Sammode Studio provides each part of the collection with advanced technical devices (swivel arm, cantilever, swivel or tilting jib, articulated spherical arm or counterweight sphere, etc. ). Designed in 1951, the G1 floor lamp is majestic and timeless. It stands out due to its metal lampshade which contains two light sources, providing lighting that is both direct and indirect (directed upwards and downwards) Inside the lampshade a white aluminium cover located in front of the bulb allows for lighting with no glare. Decorated with a solid brass ball serving as a counter-weight, the long arm also made from brass almost defies gravity. Tilting and adjustable, it lets you direct the light accurately and agilely.
I love the sleek, timeless design of this G1 floor lamp - its Bauhaus-inspired silhouette offers a great balance of form and function. Its clean lines and matte black finish make it versatile enough to complement modern, minimalist, or mid-century interiors. It works particularly well in living rooms, home offices, or reading nooks where focused task lighting is needed without overpowering the space. Practical styling tips include placing it next to a comfortable armchair or sofa to create a cosy reading corner, or using it to highlight a statement piece or textured wall. Keep the surrounding decor simple to let its sculptural quality shine, and consider pairing it with other black or metallic accents for a cohesive look.
