Inspired by an inscription on Jackson's father's gravestone, this abstract artwork is part of a series that uses an intaglio printmaking technique. Effectively a monoprint, made using excess varnish applied to the printing plate and transferred onto paper, this original artwork is part of a series of intaglio prints. The artist was inspired by an inscription on his father's gravestone, which reads: "Home is a sailor, home from the sea". About the artist A Chelsea School of Art alumni, Kevin Jackson is based in London, with some of his work displayed in the city's prestigious British Museum. The artist often creates mixed-media abstract pieces as a way to analyse the place humans have in an increasingly virtual world.
I love this piece because of its subtle texture and neutral palette, making it a versatile addition to many interiors. It works particularly well in minimalist or coastal-inspired spaces, where its gentle hues can complement natural materials like wood, linen, and rattan. For styling, consider pairing it with soft textiles and simple frames to allow the artwork to be a calming focal point. It’s also ideal for modern or Scandinavian schemes where its understated elegance can add depth without overwhelming the room. Practical tip: hang it at eye level in living areas or bedrooms to create a tranquil, cohesive look.
