The Egg sprang from a new technique, which Jacobsen was the first to use; a strong foam inner shell underneath the upholstery. I always turn to the Egg in black when I need a strong yet understated centrepiece. Its enveloping curves and slim base work brilliantly in minimalist, Scandi or industrial schemes, especially against pale walls or raw-brick backdrops. For practical styling, perch it beside a slim metal side table and a slimline floor lamp, then soften the look with a single wool throw or a textured cushion. It makes a great reading nook in an open-plan living area or a statement spot in a study - keep the surrounding décor pared-back so the chair’s sculptural form really stands out.

Heal's is a well-known British furniture store with a history that spans over 200 years. It began in 1810 when John Harris Heal and his son started a business for feather products but soon moved into furniture.
By the 1900s, almost everyone in London knew Heal's for its great furniture. Interestingly, they were also among the first to sell electric lights in Britain. During World War II, their main store even helped by making parachutes for soldiers.
A significant part of Heal's story is Sir Ambrose Heal, who worked there for 60 years, from 1893 to 1953. He had a unique idea combine the beautiful designs from the Arts and Crafts Movement with affordable manufacturing.
