The Frequency Hurricane lantern from Georg Jensen was designed by the American designer Kelly Wearstler. Wearstler drew on the striking similarities between Californian and Scandinavian natural scenery as a heavy source of inspiration, focussing especially on portraying the delicate relationship between light and water. The wave-shaped detailing of the lantern bowl pushes the stainless steel material to its utmost limits, a feat of tremendous craftsmanship. Able to withstand temperatures as low as 18 degrees Celsius below zero, it can be placed almost anywhere you can think of: on the balcony, by the doorway, or in nearly any outside space. The Frequency Hurricane lantern is made of mouth-blown glass, meaning that small variations in thickness can occur in the design.
I love this hurricane lantern because of its sleek, contemporary design that blends well with minimalistic and modern settings. Its clean lines and clear glass make it versatile, working equally well in cosy living rooms or dining areas, or as a centrepiece on a mantel or side table. The medium size is perfect for creating a warm, inviting glow without overpowering the space. Practical styling tips include grouping it with other candle holders or decorative objects in complementary metal or glass finishes to add visual interest. It’s also ideal for outdoor use on terraces or patio tables, adding charm and safety during evening gatherings.
