A mix of magic, design and science, the Frechin lamp is a unique optical experience. It’s designed by Jean-Louis Frechin, a French designer and architect specialising in digital design and innovation. The Frechin lamp combines timeless materials with a poetic approach to technology. Reminding us of a telescope, the Frechin lamp consists of a very long glass tube, set in an articulated structure made of gilded metal. The whole thing rests on a solid black marble base. The glass tube can be placed in two positions: straight or tilted. The lower end of the glass tube has plugs that must be placed in contact with one of the two connectors on the base to adjust its position. Once in contact with the connector, the low-voltage current supplies the LED light source: the connectors allow energy and light to flow through the tube. Barely connected, the tube lights up in an almost supernatural way, radiating a warm light into the room. The touch switch located on the base lets you vary the light intensity. This lamp illuminates space and offers a sensitive experience of optics that’s midway between science and magic. For that, you need to hold it, grasp it and experience this connector which allows energy and light to spring up in the tube.
