'The Blue Fan' by artist Francis Cadell. This colourful giclee print has a cotton core mount in a handmade and hand-finished sustainably sourced solid ash wood frame. Made in the UK by museum specialists and printed on heavyweight, matt-smooth fine art paper, it's ready to hang on your wall. Francis Campbell Boileau Cadell studied in Paris and lived in Munich before settling in his native Edinburgh around 1909. Cadell's pre-war work is influenced by the Impressionists. From around 1920, his work became brighter and bolder. Cadell painted a series of colourful still lifes, which caused some controversy when first exhibited. He employed a limited stock of objects in his still lives, typically with a steeply banked perspective and a decorative sense of pattern in his work of the early 1920s. Have you thought about wall hooks and fittings?
I love this piece because of its bold colours and modern take on classic still life. It works particularly well in contemporary or eclectic interiors, adding a splash of vibrancy without overwhelming the space. To style it effectively, consider pairing with other colourful accents or placing it against neutral walls to make the colours pop. It’s versatile enough to hang above a sofa or a sideboard, and works well with minimalist frames or contrasting darker ones for more impact. For a cohesive look, keep surrounding decor simple and let the print do the talking.
