'Iona Croft' by artist Francis Cadell. This colourful giclee print has a cotton core mount in a handmade and hand-finished solid ash wood frame. Made in the UK by museum specialists and printed on heavyweight, matt-smooth fine art paper, it's ready to hang on your wall. Francis Campbell Boileau Cadell studied in Paris and lived in Munich before settling in his native Edinburgh around 1909. Cadell's pre-war work is influenced by the Impressionists. Cadell first visited the island of Iona, off the west coast of Scotland, in 1912. Thereafter he returned frequently, often in the company of Post-Impressionist painter Samuel Peploe. Cadell’s paintings show everyday life on the island such as the brightly roofed building seen here, and he felt the light was of the same quality as that in the south of France. Like Peploe, Cadell found the tranquillity of the island a welcome break from his life in Edinburgh. His canvases of island scenes, painted in bold colours with block-like brushstrokes, were popular when he returned to the city. Have you thought about wall hooks and fittings?
I love this print for its charming, painterly depiction of Iona, which adds a touch of colour and calm to any space. It's versatile enough to work well in living rooms, bedrooms, or even a hallway to create an inviting atmosphere. The size makes it a great focal point without overwhelming smaller walls, and pairing it with simple furnishings ensures it remains the highlight. For styling, consider placing it in a grouping with other artworks or framed photographs for a personal gallery feel, or use it to introduce a subtle coastal vibe in neutral or muted decor schemes. The clean black frame provides a contemporary touch that helps it blend seamlessly into both modern and traditional settings.
