Although the artist grew up on the coast, this series intends to show a more sinister side to tidal images, referencing an 'incoming wave of bigotry' to question the notion of place, identity and belonging. Day Bowman often takes inspiration from the coastal landscape of a childhood spent growing up in a 'holiday destination seaside town'. The recipient of multiple awards, her artworks are a mix of abstract and figurative paintings that experiment with different mediums.
I love the Fortress Series 8 as it introduces a dynamic mix of colours and textures that can really elevate an interior. It works particularly well in contemporary or minimalist spaces where it can serve as a focal point, adding depth without overwhelming. For styling, consider pairing it with neutral walls and simple furnishings to let the artwork take centre stage. It also lends itself nicely to eclectic schemes when combined with other artworks or textured accessories. Practical tip: hang it at eye level in a well-lit spot to maximise its visual impact and to enjoy the layered detail and colour nuances.
