José Lévy is a Parisian artist and traveller, using his talents to create a poetic and humour-tinted take on the decorative and plastic arts. Having graduated from Villa Kujoyama and having been awarded the Grand Prix de la Ville de Paris and the honour of Chevalier des Arts et Lettres, he creates pieces for an audience passionate about tales of the past and new horizons. For Serax, José Lévy delivers a contemporary, minimalistic, and elegant collection of outdoor furniture with the Fontainebleau collection. This outdoor collection, made using perforated stainless steel, is a project extremely close to José Lévy's heart, as he designed it to furnish his very own country home which is in a prime location, just one hour away from Paris, on the edge of Fontainebleau Forest: "I love the natural surroundings here, but I'm also drawn by the thriving and bustling rhythm of Paris, which is just one hour away in the car." The Fontainebleau collection suits urban and city spaces just as well as it fits in with a countryside setting. Blending into nature, this dark green garden living space is characterised by the use of perforated steel, which makes it extremely lightweight. A trend that was popular in the 1950s, perforated steel plays on transparency and light. The perforations create light patterns, randomly projected depending on the position of the sun and lighting. Close up, the micro-perforations create a graphic, delicate, aerial effect. From afar, it creates a surprising optical effect, ethereal and vibrating. The evanescent Fontainebleau collection enhances the space with its expressive yet weightless expression. Swinging between fantasy and rigour, the Fontainebleau collection is characterised by repeated round forms which punctuate the rigorous lines. Lightweight and functional, the six modular pieces (a sofa, a chair, a stool, a round table, and a daybed) can be moved easily and adapts to your daily activities: resting, eating, working, and playing, alone or together. "I see it as me giving people the alphabet, so that they can create their own words. Everyone can create their own, personal universe with the furniture." The seats can be accessorised with soft cushions. To ensure the collection provides optimal comfort, it has been designed with two different types of cushions: firm cushions for seats and softer cushions for backrests and armrests.
