Geometric minimalism… New York artist Ethan Cook is known for his abstract and colourful canvases, made using woven cotton. Cook weaves his canvases himself, using a traditional weaving loom. The canvases woven by Cook have a modern edge thanks to their minimalist attitudes, and they're also a nod to one of the most traditional art forms: weaving. Through this process, Cook combines a unique artisan perspective with compositions reminiscent of the colourful contrast canvases of artists such as Mark Rothko, Peter Halley, and Kasimir Malevitch. Ethan Cook's work has been exhibited - and received much praise - in New York, Stockholm, Seoul, Rome, London, Paris, and Los Angeles. Cook uses pre-dyed cotton, carefully selecting the colours which he then combines in a unique, unexpected way, creating bold colour block compositions. Using simple geometric shapes and a limited colour palette, Cook's pieces tend to centre around a simple structure. With the "Flat Works" collection, Ethan Cook has reproduced his distinctive abstract art in the form of woven rugs made with wool and cotton.
