Crafted by Vitra and designed by Jean Prouvé, this Fauteuil Direction Armchair is upholstered in Vitra's premium Twill fabric with a black powder-coated steel base, and showcases perfect minimalist style with its optimum weight distribution and masterful balance. An engineer, architect and designer all at once, Jean Prouvé called himself 'le Constructeur' or 'The Factory man' and was driven by systematic design and industrial processes. Designed in 1951, the Fauteuil Direction Armchair reflects his simple insight that seating designs take the most strain on the back legs; solving this weight distribution issue, Prouvé created lightweight tubular powder-coated steel front supports and stronger, more voluminous hollow steel back legs that transfer the sitter's weight into the floor. Upholstered in Vitra's robust natural Twill fabric, the armchair is available in light grey, cognac, blue grey, ink blue, brown and dark grey. Finished with wooden armrests, available in solid natural oiled oak, solid oiled American walnut and solid oiled smoked oak, the Fauteuil Direction Armchair would make the perfect functional addition to any room. For added functionality the chair is provided with either plastic glides for carpeted rooms or felt glides for harder surfaces.
