I’m a big fan of the Lugo side table for its compact footprint and warm elm-toned finish - it’s a versatile piece that slips easily into both contemporary and mid-century inspired schemes. The clean, rounded top and subtle tapered legs give it presence without overwhelming a smaller space. Styling-wise, use the lower shelf for a small stack of coffee-table books or a neat magazine rack, then keep the tabletop clear or add a single sculptural lamp and a vase with fresh foliage. It sits equally well beside a cosy armchair or as a bedside table in a neutral or earthy-toned room.

A Remarkable Journey
Born from the vision of two young RAF men, Charles Barker and Alex Stonehouse, Barker and Stonehouse emerged as a beacon of hope, infusing post-war Britain with a hint of glamour. Starting from a single store in Stockton on Tees, their entrepreneurial spirit led to rapid expansion, opening multiple stores across the region.

Sustainability at the Forefront
From the very start, Barker and Stonehouse has held a deep commitment to the environment. This devotion was showcased through initiatives such as the Trees4Trees Project, a reforestation effort in Indonesia.
Ensuring that for every tree used in their products, more than two were replanted, nearly 1.5 million trees have been restored under this initiative.
Their Knaresborough store, one of the greenest retail stores in the UK, further underscores their dedication to sustainable practices. As a cherry on top, by 2021, the company achieved the status of "Carbon Neutral Plus", making them a trailblazer in the furniture industry.
