Description

Theres something special about the Ercol Lugo dining chair. A minimalist open frame gives it a modern look, yet the careful design provides unexpected support. Lugos curved back and dainty arms let you settle in snugly, whilst the cosy fabric seat is filled with foam for added comfort. Featuring a stunning dark finish, the chairs solid tulipwood brings classic character and durability to any dining area. Combine with the matching table and furniture for added wow factor.

Our Stylist Says

I love the Lugo armchair for its classic yet contemporary appeal, with its beautifully sculpted wooden frame and understated style. It works particularly well in mid-century modern, Scandi, or pared-back interiors where simple, elegant forms are key. Practical styling tips include pairing these chairs with a sleek dining table or mixing them with more tactile textures, such as a textured table or soft throws, to create visual interest. Its neutral, muted tone allows it to slot seamlessly into diverse colour schemes, from warm earthy palettes to cooler tones. To make the most of its design, consider clustering a few around a table with statement tableware or colourful placemats to add personality without overshadowing the chair’s understated charm.

About Barker and Stonehouse

Founded in 1946, Barker and Stonehouse offer a diverse range of stylish and timeless pieces. From contemporary to traditional designs, Barker and Stonehouse brings sophistication and comfort to every room.

A Remarkable Journey

Born from the vision of two young RAF men, Charles Barker and Alex Stonehouse, Barker and Stonehouse emerged as a beacon of hope, infusing post-war Britain with a hint of glamour. Starting from a single store in Stockton on Tees, their entrepreneurial spirit led to rapid expansion, opening multiple stores across the region.

Their fast growth was fueled not only by their flair for business but also by their dedication to innovation. The business transformed over the years, adapting to the changing landscapes of retail, all while preserving its charm and values. By 2021, they marked an impressive 75 years in the industry, a testament to their enduring commitment to quality and customer service.

Sustainability at the Forefront

From the very start, Barker and Stonehouse has held a deep commitment to the environment. This devotion was showcased through initiatives such as the Trees4Trees Project, a reforestation effort in Indonesia.

Ensuring that for every tree used in their products, more than two were replanted, nearly 1.5 million trees have been restored under this initiative.

Their Knaresborough store, one of the greenest retail stores in the UK, further underscores their dedication to sustainable practices. As a cherry on top, by 2021, the company achieved the status of "Carbon Neutral Plus", making them a trailblazer in the furniture industry.

Innovative Spaces and Expanding Horizons

Over the decades, Barker and Stonehouse didn't just expand in number, but in the quality and innovation of their spaces. From opening their iconic store in Battersea, London, which beautifully preserved the characteristics of an old candle factory, to their latest state-of-the-art Gateshead store in 2023, every location tells a story.

They have also ventured into digital realms, ensuring a vast online presence and offering a wide range of products to customers all over the UK. Their partnerships, like the one with Fenwick in 2021, illustrate their adaptability and constant quest to reach new audiences.
