Shalstone: an exclusive range of living and dining furniture that offers a contemporary reinterpretation of ercol's original designs. With each piece of furniture made from smooth pale oak, it's the beautifully curved shapes and spindles that characterise this range. Drawn from original 1950s designs, this dining table showcases exquisite craftsmanship and quality. It's built using the dovetail and box joint method for durability and it's been coated in a protective matt lacquer. It can seat up to six people when it's fully extended and the extension leaf can be stored neatly inside the table when you don't need it. We like the soft-edge, gently curved finish of the surface and the spindle-shaped tapered legs for that cool Scandi edge. How to care for your new furniture... As wood is a natural material, every piece of ercol furniture has its own unique difference. You can expect varying grain patterns, colours and shading depending on how the original tree grew. Grain patterns also depend on how the wood is cut. When oak is cut across the grain for example, medullary rays occur which creates growth rings and flecks - this is a sign of quality. All wood will change colour and mellow over time, so use protective mats when placing items on the surface Try to avoid placing your furniture in direct sunlight or near a heat source, as wood expands and contracts with temperature and humidity changes and gaps or cracks along joints can appear Dust your new furniture regularly with a dry cloth and aim to mop up spillages immediately Matt or painted furniture should be wiped occasionally with a soft, slightly damp cloth and diluted mild detergent, then dried with a lint cloth Satin-finished furniture should be polished twice a year using natural bees wax Do not use spray polishes or abrasive cleaning materials as these can damage the surface of the protective lacquer Want to see it first? You may want to see and get a feel for the furniture in one of our shops before ordering. We'll be able to tell you where the range you'd like to view is on display.
