Back in black... Alessi is reissuing some of its iconic models in black. Black, more than any other colour, has the ability to sculpt objects in their purest and most essential form. Blow up, the result of the first collaboration between the Campana brothers and Alessi, powerfully demonstrates the unique language and talent of these famous Brazilian designers. The concept, which is reminiscent of the game Mikado, came from the idea of assembling pieces of steel wire by welding them together. This seemingly random arrangement of rods is a recurring theme in the work of the Campana brothers. Freshness and poetry are central to the aesthetic/constructive approach used to design this unique side table. Light is a key design element of the Blow up series, and the side table in particular, delicately filtering through the glass table top and the rods suspended in the air. The interplay of solids and voids lightens the metal structure, creating a shape that appears to have exploded into formation. The unusual structure of the Blow-Up magazine rack means it changes appearance depending on the light filtering through it and the perspective adopted. Its dynamic geometry is enhanced by the black finish, constantly revealing new details. An object that will delight your guests and continue to surprise. The Campana brothers: "In the suburbs of São Paulo, not so long ago, everyone had TV aerials in their living rooms or on the roof. Now all televisions have aerial cables. In the 1990s, we created a screen from antennae at a time when São Paulo was covered with these devices... We try to recreate using existing materials and capture what we see in the world around us. Alessi asked us to visit their factory to see if we wanted to create something new or work on an existing piece. When we spotted the bits of scrap metal dotted here and there, we came up with the idea of creating sculptures made of metal rods. They really liked the idea and so the Blow up collection came into being... "The first products designed by the Campana brothers were issued by Alessi in 2004 and immediately met with international success. The Brazilian brothers, Humberto and Fernando Campana, rocked the world of design, offering an alternative definition of creativity: a breath of fresh air with a lightness of touch and a certain poetry. Their work is notable for its use of raw materials and their interest in cheap, recycled materials. With their hybrid, sometimes primitive shapes, they attempt to express the contradictions of urban chaos, drawing on the vitality of indigenous forms to give objects an authentic character, linked to that of the local population.
